Through yoga, we care for the body (asana), connect to the breath (pranayama) and quiet the mind and connect to our True Self, our Essence & our infinite wholeness.
Yoga is not a religion. However, for those who have a religious or spiritual foundation, it will offer depth. For those who do not, it will offer a foundation for connection to yourself and the universe which you are very much a part of.
Branches of yoga practiced at Rooted Circles include but are not limited to Hatha, Ashtanga, Tantra, Karma, Kundalini.
Yoga is available to anyone who is willing. All ages, all stages. Every BODY is able.
This practice can be a valuable, lifelong tool for physical, mental & emotional strength, vitality, wholeness and peace. We do not need to be flexible, calm, balance, in order to BEGIN practicing yoga. We practice to attain the freedom to BE with those qualities.

Back in 1997, while studying psychology at U of MN, Duluth, we were required to attend a yoga class. The instructor invited us to sit comfortably, close our eyes, and say “hello” to our breath. She explained that from the moment we were born, our breath has been there. In fact, we came into life on an inhale and we leave on an exhale. As that sank in, the past started to bubble up. Although it was uncomfortable, I suddenly felt aware of a vital life force, or flow, that had always been there-in joy, in grief & even in the moments I wasn’t aware. Over the years, I’ve returned over and over to my mat, to my breath.
Eventually, I realized my practice extended off my into other aspects of life. I noticed it as I moved through seemingly ordinary days, and days I’ll never forget like the day I gave birth to our daughter, and later, 3 boys. I felt this connection when our son Myles died. And, again when my parents died.
David Kessler writes, “Grief is a reflection on a connection that’s been lost”.
The word yoga means to unite and, for me, was an effective remedy in remembering the connection that’s always there.
I married the love of my life, John in September, 2001. Deciding to learn more about birth, I became a birth doula with Doulas of North America/DONA International. At the time, the national average cesarean rates were DOUBLE what the World Health Organization recommended and the c-section rates of the women in my family we over double that! Unnecessary c-sections are a major risk for moms and babies contributing to increase risks for complications relating to this major abdominal surgery as well as interfering with a very basic and necessary time when imprinting and bonding between mother and baby is crucial for health (including immunity, breast milk production, and infant development). I became very interested in the biomechanics of normal birth, how birth is managed and what I could do to improve the outcomes of my doula clients and my own births when I had children.
In 2004, pregnant with our daughter, I began attending prenatal yoga. I also learned that pregnancy should not, hurt yet I was experiencing sacral disfunction, diaphragmatic restriction & neck and shoulder tension. I began receiving craniosacral therapy with Deb McLaughlin, CST, owner of Northern Lights Wellness in Duluth MN. All of my symptoms began to resolve after a few visits and she even helped resolve a life time of cranial imbalances including TMJ or TMD (tempromandibular joint dysfuction). Although the birth was tough, we avoided a cesarean and our daughter was healthy. Both baby and I continued craniosacral care in to the postpartum months to recover and restore our bodies from the process. I had experienced a separated pubic symphysis and was so grateful to have a gentle modality like CST so I could focus on my beautiful new daughter!
In 2007, pregnant with our second child, I got back into prenatal yoga and in September, our first son was born. Labor started and I used yoga tools and moved with the rhythms of labor. Everything was so smooth & relatively gentle we waited too long to call the midwife and our son was born before our midwife arrived! He was healthy and beautiful and within minute, our midwife and assistant we at our sides, handling all the post-partum care with such grace! We’ll never forget it!
By 2008, with tremendous support from family, friends and colleges, and incredible educators, I certified in craniosacral therapy/Dynamic Body Balancing and completed an apprenticeship at Northern Lights Wellness in Duluth.
Then, in 2009, after moving back home to Hibbing from Duluth, both yoga & craniosacral therapy proved to be vital to me as I moved through the experience of my mother’s cancer diagnosis, then 8 months later, the birth of our son, Myles and 7 weeks later, his unexpected death. After about 2 and half years, my mom, the embodiment of grace, peace & wisdom, died at age 52. More recently, in 2018, we suddenly lost my Dad.
Life doesn't always get easier, and grief doesn’t just “go away” we get stronger, smarter and if we can take care of ourselves it helps.
In 2017, our youngest son was born. Busy, lively and constantly keeping us aware of how blessed we are, he embodies living life to the fullest-A blessed reminder.
Presently, I have never been more clear about why I’m here and what I’m suppose to be doing. My dharma (purpose) is to shine light into darkness, serve and facilitate reconnection and healing in the cleanest, clearest possible way.

Craniosacral Therapy
I am a migraine sufferer along with many other physical obstacles from years of working. As with most people, years of repetitive motion and lifting work has taken a toll on my shoulders, back, neck, hips etc. I am currently treating with craniosacral and feel that not only have I learned how to treat my body when I am struggling after a long day, but I have also learned the causes of my pain, why I’m hurting, and how to alleviate the aches and pains. Angela is more than patient with me and understands the way our bodies function. She takes the time to teach me things about why my issues and how to control, manage, or alleviate my pain. Angela does not just perform a service, she educates you so that you feel like your in control of your body.

”Yoga is where I met Angela. Now as a certified Yoga instructor, I continue to learn and enjoy her classes. Not only for my physical health, but also my mental health as well.
As a mom of four our entire family has greatly benefited from Angela’s cranial sacral services at Rooted Circles. My fourth pregnancy was my best thanks to Angela’s cranial sacral treatments during pregnancy and postpartum. From infancy to teen years she is always so kind and patient making sure my kids are comfortable. They ask to go back!
My husband has also benefited from seeing Angela for his recurring back pain.
I appreciate the time Angela takes to listen and I’m grateful to have her in our community!”
